Catskill Tree. Watercolor

I've been an avid hiker most of my life, even completing the Appalachian Trail (2,190 m) some decades ago, but my favorite place is the Catskill Mountains. I had a favorite trail and of course a favorite tree. I'd stop & sketch, or sit under its boughs and ask what wonders it's seen since my last visit. Since I had photos and sketches over 4 seasons & 5 yrs, I certainly had enough reference for this watercolor.
Surprisingly, even with all the snow in this scene, there is no white paint used. Traditionally, in watercolor, the whitest part of the image will always be the paper, so I worked into the parts I wanted to keep white, giving the work suggestion of snow.Experience the tranquil beauty of winter with this Catskill tree watercolor painting.
